Decoration Methods

Which decoration method is best for your project?

decoration methods

To support the needs of our customers, we offer a variety of decoration methods including screen printing, embroidery and heat applied materials.

Having multiple decoration methods at our fingertips enables us to provide one-stop-shopping for all your decoration needs, while offering a variety of products that our competitors simply can't match.

But having all these options can sometimes be confusing.

While we put together some high-level pros and cons for each decoration method below, just know that we'll help you every step of the way to decide which is best for your project. In some cases, it might even be a combination of all three!

We'll make it easy for you.

Screen Printing

Screen Printing

Screen printing is our most popular decoration method for larger orders.

In the screen printing process, ink is essentially pushed through stencils that contain your design onto the shirt or other item being printed. The ink is then cured using high-heat for a long-lasting print. Using this process, we can create virtually any design in any colors you choose.

Since a separate screen must be created for each color in a design — designs with multiple colors and print locations will cost more than those with a simple one-color print. These additional costs go down significantly as you purchase larger quantities, however it can become a factor for smaller quantities.

Pros

  • Most cost-effective decoration method for larger orders
  • Nearly any design and ink color can be used
  • Vibrant designs, even on darker items

Cons

  • Not ideal for smaller runs or items needing personalization
  • Separate screens are needed for each color in the design, resulting in higher costs for designs with multiple colors

Best for

  • T-shirts
  • Activewear and sportswear
  • Sweatshirts and hoodies
  • Hats
  • Bags
  • Blankets
  • And much more...

Embroidery

Embroidery

While it looks best on polos, sweatshirts, jackets, bags and hats — embroidery is versatile and can add a sense of elegance and style to virtually any material.

We start by taking your design and digitizing it into a language that our embroidery machines can understand. Through this process we also assign thread colors to each element in the design. Once the design is digitized, we'll sew out a sample for your approval.

Though we have embroidered t-shirts and other thinner materials, we find that intricate designs work best on thicker materials due to the number of times the needle has to pass through the material. But don't worry — we'll always let you know in advance if we think there might be a problem.

Pros

  • Higher perceived value and professionalism
  • Durable and resistant to washing
  • Cost-effective for smaller quantities and for designs with multiple colors
  • Great for offering personalized items

Cons

  • Color options somewhat limited to thread availability
  • Small letters and design details may not translate well to the final product

Best for

  • Polo shirts
  • Hats, scarves, and beanies
  • Jackets and outerwear
  • Sweatshirts and hoodies
  • Backpacks and bags
  • Towels and blankets
  • And much more...

Heat Applied Materials

Heat Applied Materials

Using heat-applied materials, we can create unique designs that simply aren't available from your typical decorator.

In this process, we use heat and a commercial press to bond materials to a fabric. When finished, you're left with a product that is soft to the touch, but durable enough for sportswear.

Using heat applied materials also allows us to cost-effectively produce smaller quantity orders, as well as offer personalization. This process is also great for made-to-order items where you only need a few at a time.

Pros

  • Images are long-lasting and very durable
  • Affordable for smaller quantity orders
  • Unique designs can include reflective materials, patterns, glitter, rhinestones, studs and more
  • Great for personalizing items

Cons

  • Each application is created through a manual process, so it can be time-consuming for larger quantities, intricate designs, or designs having multiple colors
  • Color options somewhat limited to material availability

Best for

  • T-shirts
  • Polos
  • Activewear and sportswear
  • Sweatshirts and hoodies
  • Hats
  • Blankets
  • Backpacks and bags
  • And much more...
